Welcome to Cedar Class!

Year 4/5 - Cedar Class

Class teacher : Miss Sands

Class Overview

Welcome to our Cedar Class page. We are a keen and happy group of learners. You can find us in the Lee Building, next to Oak Class. Miss Sands is our class teacher. When she has release time on Thursday afternoons, Mrs Holmes teaches us Geography and RE.

Our PE Days are Tuesday and Wednesday.  Children should come to school on these days in their PE kits.

If you have questions or concerns, please do feel free to contact me on the class email:

Year 4  and 5 children are expected to continue to develop their independent working behaviours and become more responsible for their own learning. We learn in a variety of different ways, taking our direction from the National Curriculum. We enjoy asking questions, having interesting discussions and learning through doing.

Our topic for Autumn One is Ancient Greece. We share all of the same topic materials with Elm and Willow Class. You can find out more about what we will all be up to on our Topic Web, ready to download below.

Homework is given out every Friday and is due in again on Wednesday. We have Spellings, Maths work and usually an English or Topic-based activity.  We are also expected to read ten pages a day, five days a week. We should expect to spend no more than an hour and a half a week on our homework tasks, although any extra research or practice we would like to do is always warmly welcomed!

Please see the bottom of the page, where you will be able to download this week's homework sheet.

Spellings are given out every Tuesday and tested the following week. Children are given two copies of the spelling list: one to keep in their tray, to practice during quiet moments in the school day, and another set to take home.

Please see the bottom of the page, where you will be able to download this week's homework sheet.

Supporting your child

There are so many ways to support your child's success. Regular reading with your child is important, as well as time spent discussing the text with them. For fiction texts, you could discuss the genre, plot, characters, endings, language used etc. For non-fiction texts, discuss the type of text, its purpose, audience and structure. There are some question ideas in your child's reading record.

In Maths we will focus on the instant recall of times tables and number bonds. Children are expected to have a quick recall of all times tables from 1x - 12 x 12.
