Welcome to our Elm Class page. We are a friendly and hardworking group who enjoy learning. Miss Abraham is our teacher. When she has release time on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, Mrs Holmes, Premier Sports and Mrs Sajid teach us.
Please be aware that our Indoor P.E is on Mondays and our Outdoor P.E is on Wednesday.
Year 5 and 6 children are expected to continue to develop their independent working behaviours and become more responsible for their own learning. We learn in a variety of different ways, taking our direction from the National Curriculum. We enjoy asking questions, having interesting discussions and learning through doing.
Our topic for the Autumn Term 2 is Extreme Environments. We share all of the same topic materials with Cedar and Willow Class. You can find out more about what Elm Class will be up to on our Topic Web on the Year 5/6 page.
Homework is given out every Friday and is due in again on Wednesday. The children can expect Spellings, Maths work and usually an English or Topic-based activity. They are also expected to read ten pages a day, five days a week. The children should not be working more than an hour and a half a week on their assigned task, although any extra research or practice they would like to do is always warmly welcomed.
Spellings are given out on a Friday and tested the following week.
There are so many ways to support your child's success. Regular reading with your child is so important as it supports learning across every single area of the curriculum. Please spend some time discussing the text with them. For fiction texts, discuss the genre, plot, characters, endings, language used etc. For non-fiction texts, discuss the type of text, its purpose, audience and structure.
