Well done to the boys who played in the School football match against Hardwick Primary School this week. The 11 boys were an absolute credit to Meridian, not just in their performance but they were so polite and well behaved too as commented by a couple of teachers and parents from Hardwick. The game ended 3-2 to Hardwick but it was a brilliant game. Thank you to Alex Minei for arranging this and coaching the children.
The Year 3 children went on an exciting trip to Wimpole Hall to become Rangers for a day. The children took part in outdoor activities learning how the rangers look after the estate and getting their hands dirty while planting trees. They also learnt about the importance of trees and having biodiverse habitats. Every child got to dig some land and plant a tree. The children impressed the Wimpole leaders with their wildlife knowledge and were great Meridian ambassadors.
Our 5/6 children took part in a Light it Up Christmas project to design and make a showpiece decoration for Christmas using an electrical element. All designs and models are as individual as the children.
Here is a short clip when we lit up the school hall.
We had lots of fun today dressed up in our Christmas jumpers and Christmas accessories dashing around the school field and playground. Music was playing, and bells were ringing as the children ran for joy. This was all in aid of Save the Children. We have raised a fantastic £147. A huge well done to all that took part.
This week was our anti bullying week focus. The children had lots of opportunity to talk about bullying and bullies in many different forms and to discuss strategies to help keep them safe.
The children all created hand prints with captions which will be displayed around the school as a reminder of our message to all 'no to bullying of any kind'.
Our Y6 children's writing will feature in our new anti-bullying policy.
Our thanks to Cambridge United coach Sam Carrington for leading a special assembly on anti-bullying this week.
Although our focus week has finished - all children were reminded that anti- bullying is all the time, in every week past, and to come.
Wow! Two Y6 teams competed in the county wide English challenge. the first heat against 17 other teams was held yesterday. Our two teams did extremely well!
We wait to hear if we are in the final with one of our teams who took second place in this heat!
Our Harvest celebrations this week included singing, poetry and a visit from Reverend David Newton.
Thank you for donating so many food items. They have all been delivered to Jimmy's Shelter in Cambridge - place for support homeless people
On Friday 8th October, the whole school took part in a school fun run which included part of the public recreation ground as well as our school field. It was a huge success with all the children cheering as class by class returned to the finishing line!
The Fun run highlighted the importance of being physically and mentally healthy and we raised money for the schools' habitat garden - which is set to be re-created for a reflection space for children.
Any donations are most welcome and our PTA have set up a just give page on https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/meridianpta
We had two events that helped raise money for our link school in The Gambia. On Friday we held 'festival of colour' day - to reflect the African Continent. It was a non uniform event - and we all came in with a splash of colour. Our Y6 raised enough funds through their enterprising day in July and split the funds between the our school habitat garden project and our link schools in The Gambia. A total of £356 was raised this year. This money support two children's school fees and the provide resources for the school. Thank you very much!
We have supported the school fees every year for Pa and Oumie at one of our link schools in The Gambia, and since they started at 5 years. Now they are about to enter the world of work and with great ambition for the future.
We look forward to learning about two new children we will support.
On Wednesday 8th September Year 3 and 4 had a fun Team Building day. They took part in a variety of activities: finding a safe route through a maze, being detectives solving a crime, listening carefully to their partner’s instructions to return coloured bean bags to the correct hoop whilst being blindfolded and saving a duck!! It was a great morning which helped the Year 3 and 4 children to get to know each other and develop their team work skills. Well done Year 3 and 4.
